Other Criteria of NICL Recruitment 2026
1. Educational Qualification (as on 01.07.2026)
- Minimum Degree: You must possess a Graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized University, or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Central Government.
- Language Proficiency: Knowledge of reading, writing, and speaking the regional language of the State/UT for which you are applying is essential. You must pass a qualifying Regional Language Test before final selection.
2. Age Limit (as on 01.07.2026)
- Age Bracket: Minimum 21 years and maximum 30 years. (Candidates must be born between 02.07.1996 and 01.07.2005, both days inclusive).
- Upper Age Relaxation: Reserved categories receive upper age relaxations, including:
- SC/ST: 5 years
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years
- PwBD: 10 to 15 years (depending on category)
- Ex-Servicemen: Period of service + 3 years (subject to a maximum age of 50)
3. Nationality / Citizenship
A candidate must be either:
- A citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan.
- A Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling.
- A person of Indian origin who migrated from specified countries (like Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, etc.) to permanently settle in India (requires an eligibility certificate from the Government of India).
Selection Procedure
The recruitment criteria also specify a multi-tier selection process:
- Phase-I: Preliminary Examination (Online Objective Test): A 100-mark test spanning English Language, Reasoning Ability, and Quantitative Aptitude.
- Phase-II: Main Examination (Online Objective Test): A 200-mark test covering Reasoning, English Language, Numerical Ability, General Awareness, and Computer Knowledge.
- Regional Language Test: A mandatory qualifying test to check proficiency in the local language of the applied state.
(Note: There is a penalty for wrong answers in both the Preliminary and Main exams, where 1/4th of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted.)
How to Apply for NICL Recruitment 2026
1. Before You Register
Make sure you have the following documents scanned and ready according to the required specifications:
- Photograph: A recent passport-style color photo 4.5 cm * 3.5 cm. (Note: You will also need a webcam or mobile phone to capture and upload a live photograph during registration).
- Signature: Written on white paper with black ink. (Do not write your signature in CAPITAL LETTERS).
- Left Thumb Impression: On white paper with black or blue ink.
- Handwritten Declaration: Must be written in your own handwriting, in English, and not in capital letters, on white paper with black ink. The exact text to write is:
“I _______ (Name of the candidate), hereby declare that all information submitted by me in the application form is correct, true and valid. I will present the supporting documents as and when required.” - Keep a valid personal email ID and mobile number active throughout the entire recruitment process.
2. Application Registration Steps
- Go to the official website: https://nationalinsurance.nic.co.in/
- Navigate to the Recruitment section and click on “APPLY ONLINE”.
- Choose the tab “Click here for New Registration” and fill in your basic contact details and email ID. A provisional registration number and password will be generated and sent via SMS/Email.
- Fill in the detailed application form. Use the “Save and Next” tab to check your data as you go.
- Upload your scanned photograph, signature, left thumb impression, and handwritten declaration.
- Click on the Preview Tab to carefully verify all information, as no changes are permitted after final submission.
- Click “COMPLETE REGISTRATION” once everything is verified.
3. Payment of Fees (Online Mode Only)
- After completing the registration, click on the “PAYMENT” tab and proceed to pay.
- Application Fees:
- SC / ST / PwBD / EXS: NIL
- All other candidates: Rs. 850/-
- Payment can be made via Debit Cards, Credit Cards, Internet Banking, IMPS, or Mobile Wallets.
- Once payment is successful, an e-Receipt will be generated. Print and save both the e-Receipt and the submitted online application form for your records.
