About Tinsukia District Judiciary
The Tinsukia District Judiciary, functioning under the administrative control of the Gauhati High Court, serves as the backbone of the legal and justice delivery system in the easternmost industrial hub of Assam. Headquartered in Tinsukia town, this judicial setup comprises a hierarchy of civil and criminal courts designed to maintain the rule of law across the district’s vast and diverse population. At its apex sits the Court of the District and Sessions Judge, which possesses original and appellate jurisdiction over both civil disputes and serious criminal offenses. It is supported by an array of subordinate courts, including the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court, Additional District Judges, and various Munsif and Judicial Magistrate courts. Tasked with handling complex disputes arising from the region’s prominent tea, oil, and coal industries, the district judiciary plays a vital role in ensuring accessible, timely, and affordable justice for the local populace.
